Dumb Waiter

Dumb Waiter

“The Dumb Waiter,” starring Brad Brackenridge and Dan Fewings, transforms The Theatre on King into a dingy, mysterious basement bedroom. Two men wait… for what? Come see two of Peterborough’s best and most beloved performers in this taut, edgy, and humourous play by Harold Pinter. Directed by Kate Story.

The one-act play premiered in 1960, and is a staple of the era’s absurdist theater movement, highlighted by the likes of Pinter, Edward Albee and Samuel Beckett. In an interesting note, the hit film “In Bruges” by Martin McDonagh, starring Colin Farrell, was inspired by “The Dumb Waiter.” A current of violence underlies an essentially existential exploration of individuals caught up in a system they barely understand.
