Kitten! reimagines Victoria Ward’s 1993 indie theatre hit. eye magazine tagged it as “a smart and sexy… ‘confessional’ monologue… Doubt is rooted in the awakening of the loins… It’s a brief, but charged account of one woman’s pilgrimage to authenticity.” A collaborative and intergenerational artistic team engages with the material with a deconstructionist, postmodern and vivisectionist approach. The work expressed tensions of its time: indoctrination, sexuality during the AIDS pandemic, youth, and Catholicism. Key themes and tone persist, drawing us to revisit the piece. How has theatre transformed the world over the centuries? How can it continue to do so now? Has Covid changed how we frame intimacy? Rather than passive audiences, we develop audience participants who connect to the process throughout; their participation is integrated into the work, becoming part of the ever-evolving performance text. The presentation is digital and live.
