Friday September 4, 2026
on Hedderwick will be sharing poems and stories from the play that inspired our forthcoming short film, Enkidu.
As you may have heard, the short film adaptation of Enkidu is all but finished and now the team is raising funds to help cover the cost of submitting it to festivals. While they can’t show the film to you just yet, they’re dying to talk about it and share glimpses of what they’ve been working on. So please, join us as part of your art crawl and consider making a donation to help us get this work out into the world.
As part of these half-hour presentations of poetry and storytelling, Jon will share pieces from the play and stories about writing, performing, producing, and filming the work. We will also be screening some footage from the high-contrast film shoot we did
last February, and we’ll be offering an exclusive sneak peek of the film’s trailer.
And… of course, we’ve got SWAG!! There will be stickers and some fun merch on hand to purchase.
So come through!

About the work:
Based on the Epic of Gilgamesh, Jon Hedderwick’s original, one-person play follows the character of Enkidu into the subterranean underworld of ancient Sumer after his death. Horned and clad in black feathers, Enkidu struggles to remember as he works to assemble a ceremonial dreamhouse. If he can just get the ritual right, maybe the gods will show him a good dream, and maybe, just maybe, a way back to Gilgamesh. While at its core, the play is about immeasurable loves separated by death, this work also reflects on the themes of mental illness, separation from the natural world, isolation, and memory.
Jon Hedderwick a spoken word poet, playwright, filmmaker, and youth employment counsellor of mixed Ashkenazi Jewish and Scottish heritage based in Nogojiwanong/ C.K.A. Peterborough, Ontario. Jon is one of the Electric City Poet Laureates in Residence and the Artistic Director for the Peterborough Poetry Slam. He has performed poetry across Canada, and his work has been featured at poetry series and poetry and storytelling festivals across Turtle Island North.
