The great saxophonist, educator and multi-Juno award winner Pat Labarbera will be sitting in on Kirk’s behalf. Pat has an impressive pedigree including stints with the bands of Woody Herman, Louis Bellson, Buddy Rich, Elvin Jones and others touring throughout every major city in the U.S., Europe, and Japan.
He played on every major network television show including The Ed Sullivan Show and Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show several times. He has worked with the biggest entertainers in the business including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Chick Corea, Woody Shaw, and McCoy Tyner.
The Kirk MacDonald/Jon Gordon quartet will be performing a number of Canadian dates in July with performances in Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City and Peterborough.
This group combines two of the leading saxophonists of their generation with Adrian Vedady, one of Montreal’s leading bassists and the internationally renowned Austrian drummer Bernd Reiter in a program of original compositions by the co-leaders, along with selections from the great jazz cannon and the American songbook traditions.
