Murder Mystery Kicks off Holiday Season on November 15,
Supports Community Theatre
When murderers check in to the mysterious Meridian Hotel, who will check out alive? It’s up to the audience to uncover who did it. Over lunch!
Murder on McDonnel, The Theatre on King’s annual fun-filled murder mystery luncheon, takes place on Friday, November 15 at the McDonnel Street Activity Centre.
Presented by The Theatre on King, (TTOK), and sponsored by ??, Murder on McDonnel promises an afternoon of great local food, drink, music – and, of course, mayhem – featuring a cast of some of Peterborough’s most celebrated actors including Naomi DuVall, Matt Gilbert, Di Latchford, Daniel Smith, Lindsay Unterlander, and Adam Martignetti.
This is TTOK’s fourth Murder on McDonnel. “It’s the ideal way to kick off the holiday season while supporting a community theatre,” says TTOK’s artistic director Ryan Kerr. “This year we have a fantastic brand-new original script by Andrew Root.” Evidence will be provided between courses. “Is it the opportunistic hotel manager?” asks director Kate Story. “The jittery bellhop? The hot tempered tycoon? They all have a secret, they’re all suspects, and they’re all potential victims!” she laughs.
Frank Flynn will make his first Murder appearance as a detective who sets his eye on solving the mystery. “Most people know Frank from his excellent work through his service Taxpayer Relief Letters,” Story says. “He’s also a dedicated runner. But what some people don’t know about Frank is that he’s a wonderful and widely-produced playwright.”
“I love The Theatre on King,” says Flynn. “They’re great folk providing an important service to the arts community.” Flynn adds, “Peterborough needs an incubator-type space like TTOK. They’ve changed the face of performance in town since they opened.”
Now in its seventh year, TTOK – located near the corner of King and George streets – not only hosts theatre productions, but also literary and musical events, film screenings, cabarets, and much more. “TTOK provides an intimate space that’s accessible to artists and audiences alike,” says Jill Walker, a volunteer who regularly attends productions at TTOK. “You can rent it, put on a play, teach or take a class, or attend one of the many performances taking place throughout the year. It’s a little space with a big heart.”
Flynn agrees. “Every performance I’ve attended has been so memorable. The calibre is first rate.”
Murder on McDonnel will feature a delicious three-course lunch with wine or beer, and a cash bar. Musical entertainment will be performed by period-music stars Chester Babcock, featuring Susan Newman, Rob Fortin and John Hoffman.
