Introducing Rough Cuts, a new program built to get creative work on its feet. Rough Cuts is a super low tech opportunity for local artists to showcase works in progress of any genre. Read from your new novel! Share an excerpt of your new dance piece, monologue, scene, song, poem, or multidisciplinary extravaganza!
Artist line-up for the inaugural Rough Cuts:
Angel Hamilton – a documentary media art piece that blends stand-up monologue and film, tracing her search for her real father through true crime clues and personal storytelling.
Charlotte Kennedy – Butterflies in Counterpoint (working title) An early rough, evolving dreamscape of counterpoints—melding old and new writing into a low-tech, noir-tinged piece that balances despair with moments of light, seeking an opening through language, physicality, and music.
Georgia Fisher – Georgia Fisher shares songs from a developing musical that explores the surreal world of the NICU and the hidden history of incubators in carnival sideshows titled The Incubator Show.
Hartley Stephenson – will show examples of his creations and describe the process of hand-making paper, with photos and descriptions of the felt-couching process and the essential machine for turning fibrous material into pulp, called a hollander-beater, that was made for him by a local artisan.
Naomi Duvall – Howdy, Hellmouth! A burlesque, clown act gone off the rails. Exploring the dark side of power — blending physical theatre, sensuality, a bull whip and unsettling humor
Sahira the Djinn – A short multi-disciplinary film work by Sahira the Djinn; blending poetry and music into a decolonial exploration of harm and the healing power of community.
