An ad-hoc group of talented Ptbo artists (Ryan Kerr, Brad Brackenridge,
Rob Fortin, and Kate Story, director Em Glasspool) band together to
bring you a wild ride through the world of the literary cockroach Archy,
and his friend Mehitabel, a morally careless alley cat. Based on beloved
characters created by Don Marquis, damned be this transmigration is a
dancing, singing roller coaster with text from Marquis’ famous newspaper
column and music from the swinging twenties (plus original composition).
It’s a hot shot of entertainment amidst Marquis’ pointed social
commentary – relevant to this day. We also get a glimpse into the
raucous and often tragic life of Marquis himself. This is New York on
the cusp of Dorothy Parker and James Thurber, arguably a New York at its
literary zenith. This is a first look at a work in progress.
